Jane Davidson, the Welsh Assembly Government Minister for the Environment, Sustainability and Housing, visited on Thursday 24th April.
The minister was keen to learn more about the decommissioning process at Trawsfynydd and how waste is dealt with and processed at the site. She was welcomed by Site Director Phil Sprague and Deputy Site Director Edwina Winter along with the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) Site Programme Manager Glenn Vaughan.
The day commenced with a presentation from Edwina Winter on the history of the site which was followed by a tour of the facilities including the Active Waste Vaults, retrievals at the South Vault Fuel Element Debris (FED) recovery plant, the retrieval of Miscellaneous Activated Components (MAC), Ponds scabbling and the new Intermediate Level Waste (ILW) Store. After the tour Jane Davidson had lunch with the site lead team, NDA officials, Trade Union Representatives and members of the local Site Stakeholder Group (SSG).
Ms Davidson later gave thanks for her interesting and instructive visit which gave a better insight into the challenges associated with decommissioning Trawsfynydd Site and was also very impressed by the dedication and professionalism of the people who she met during the tour.
